My powermax 155 boiler is approx 10 years old, recently every couple of hours it loses water pressure and goes on lockout mode which is really frustrating. I am forever refilling the system with water and i am awere that the presure reading should be 1bar to 1.5bar, has anyone got any suggestions on rectifying this problem or is it a complexed job for a engineer to repair.

please help i am at my witts end

You most likely have a leak somewhere. Has it been serviced ever?

i think i will leave the butchering to a boiler butcher lol.

i definitely don't have a leak anywhere, i have only been in this house for 2 and half years and i have never had it serviced, i have spoken to a gas engineer and he told me that the service would take the best part of 8 hours work and he would have to dismantle the pumps and take the bottom off the tank, anyway he tells me he knows what it is and could rectify this fault with ease by changing some valve and could cost £100 to £200.

watch the pressure when the ch comes on and heats up.. If it rises more than half a bar then your expansion vessel needs recharging and possibly you'll need a new prv. there's some info in the FAQ on how to do the expansion vessel.

btw, if you've never had this thing serviced, you have no idea when it was last checked I'm assuming? if ever?? . In which case can I make a suggestion you invest in a battery operated CO detector, it might save your life if this thing is leaking CO everywhere, which is quite possible on these horrible things, they have killed before. Go on ebay now, order yourself one for 20notes or less.

thanks for the advice the pressure does rise when heated but if left to cool down the pressure drops and it then locks out, thats what the engineer said it was a expansion vessel and possibly a few other minor things does that sound a good price for that work to be done, could you tell me what a prv is please, and where is the FAQ

i would get this serviced by some1 that undrstands powermax`s

as sum1 already said they can be lethal

make sure all gaskits get changed and as said get a c0 detector
