Radiuator not getting hot - fix question?

Hello plumbers... hope you can help me here-

One of my radiaors appears not be get hot at all, even the pipe to it is cool, - the others are all fine - after reading the help section on this website I have discovered that the pin on the thermostatic valve is forced down constantly.

My question is do i need to drain down my whole central heating system to replace the valve and cure the problem? or is there an easier and much quicker way ? can i mend the valve or do i need a whole new one, and if so do i need the exact same type/make?

My system has a tank in the attic, and the boiler i have is a baxi. just a normal standard central heating system really.

any help would be brilliant.

See if you can 'tease' the trv pin back up first with snipe nose pliers or tweezers even - some types have a gland nut that can be slackened. You'll have to drain down (or freeze) the pipe to replace the trv and the radiator will empty too- replace the trv like for like (if you can) and you won't have any refitting problems.

Have you tried freeing the pin?

Hitting the side of the metal valve body with a hammer (not too hard) may do the trick. If not use a pair of pliers to pull the pin up, but be careful not to bend the pin. A small amount of WD40 may help. The pin should go down when pressed and jump up when released.
