fitting a chimney liner

going to fit a chimney liner myself have total confidence in doing it but just wondered if there are any tips to be shared the only thing im not 100% on is using vermiculite to seal the gather hood (wot mixture do i need ?? ) above the fire back

Tie a washing line onto liner and drop the line down the chimney on a weight. As you push the liner down the chimney it will probably find a bend which may cause it to stick a little. Spin and push liner while some one is pulling on the washing line.

Make sure you have everything covered with dust sheets and hole covered if line not being pulled on. Its amazing how much sh#te comes down.

Also make sure you have a long enough liner as no joins allowed.

Do you have a gas registered engineer who can test the flue after you have fitted it?

I thought metal liners weren't permitted anymore. Don't know where I got that impression from.

Right well if its a coal fire then obviously a gas safe engineer is not required.

I did not think there were any areas which still allowed coal to be burnt.

Now I have to find somewhere to dump it unless someone on Ebay will bid on it.

A KF Mk II CF80 I disconnected yesterday is being listed on Ebay at 99p as the owner thinks its better to recycle than scrap.

My mum still has her lovely TRG45 running anthrasite, she'll never change as coals free cos the old man (god rest) used to be a miner,gas bills £5 a quarter.

We'll have it! We burn a mixture of smokeless and well-seasoned wood and sometimes even peat on our multifuel stove. We are stove fanatics; we love collecting wood, cutting and storing it for the winter. Nobody is bothered about smokeless regs any more, the few like us who do burn real fuel are considered eccentric. Wood burns better if you start the evening with a bed of coals in the grate.

The only problem would be getting your coal up to Lancashire. I'd seriously consider sending a carrier to collect it - is it bagged? Do you know the exact weight?

Its in thin bags at the moment in the back of an estate car.

I will see if I can transfer it into propper rubble bags and try to weigh it next weekend.

It seems such a pity that after its been mined and manufactured to throw it away. I like to be ecofriendly.
