Bolton Council have allowed a licence to a circus, using live animals, i don't know what animals are involved, is this still legal?

Yeah sadly circus' with Animals are still allowed as far as i know, though I doubt you'll find any with an elephant in this country.

I am suprised that the circus can survive in this electronic age.

Sad to see wild animals being exploited in this way, lions and tigers etc belong in the wild.

You obviously haven't been to Cirque Du Soleil in Orlando ... An amazing circus and NO mistreatment of animals whatsoever.

Whilst I agree in principle with
lions and tigers etc belong in the wild
it is a little naive.

If it wasn't for the many well run captive sites many of todays animal wonders of the World would be long gone.

Key thing is legislation to ensure that the animals are respected and well treated.

Yes ... In the same way that speed cameras stop speeding

The law is all we have Oompah, what would you suggest?

Let all the animals go free presumably and end up on the dinner table of the Roma Gypsies perhaps ... Or the odd scouser?

And I don't mean the single odd scouser ... Or did I?

Why is there an assumption that all circuses mistreat their animals? if the argument is that animals shouldnt be "exploited" then shouldn't this apply to ALL working animals everywhere, including police horses, racehorses , greyhounds, police dogs etc

Its a shame that a generation of children have missed out on the magical spectacle that was a circus.

No it's not, they were dead tedious in my day (1835) Anyone remember "Billy Smarts Flying boredom" on a Saturday night, jesus! I only watched in the vain hope that the trapeze artists would miss, and fall spectacularly to their death

Its what is done to get the animals to perform.

Once again a "one size fits all" argument from the brass section ... How REALLY boring.

There are as many organisations nowadays keeping and training animals for show in captivity and treating them well as there are those who abuse them ... Trainers realised a long time ago that positive reinforcement is a far better way of training animals i.e. You wait and see what they do naturally and, if it's something you want to develop, you reward them and they keep on doing it otherwise you ignore them and they move on to something else ... Try Seaworld, Animal Kingdom, Busch Gardens et al in Florida.

Do some broader reading about the subject rather than going for the obvious headline.
