Socket under sink

as long as it's suitable for the conditions..
will it get wet under there in the event of a blocked drain or leaking pipe?

Does that really need to be considered?

What about the spur in the airing cupboard for the immersion heater? Surely there's more risk of a burst pipe in there? But are waterproof connections used?

Quite a maverick!

First (in another thread), you suggest baulking at moving downlighters that are ill-positioned, now you suggest that environmental factors need not be considered when selecting and erecting equipment.

an airing cupboard doesn't regularly have water freely running in the open above it..

Perhaps you read my other post wrong. I know that badly placed downlighters should be moved. The evidence why is right there at the top of the thread. I was simply asking advice on how to deal with them.

Here I was simply asking if you need to consider the possibility of a burst pipe here more than anywhere else, as they can happen anywhere. I wasn't saying that you don't have to consider anything.

I do not consider myself to be an authority, simply someone wanting to learn more by asking questions. You will notice that most of my posts have question marks in them, that's because I want to get advice, not give it. I do apologise if that wasn't clear; the last thing I want is an accident occurring by someone taking my questions as advice.

Fair point. Unless it is below the cold water storage tank :P

ccam:

Perhaps I should have put a smiley on my post. It was a light-hearted dig...

Use an MK Masterseal weatherproof socket - solves all problems full stop.

Mine does...Is it not supposed to be like that?

are you often messing in there splasing water about? or running to answer the door or phone when you've left the tap on filling the ( bowl ) tank? and do you not have a ballvalve on it? or conversely a ball valve on the kitchen taps so that they trun off once the bowl is 2/4 full?

I'm not trying to be awkward ( it comes naturally, I don't need to try ;) ), I'm just trying to point out that with human intervention there is a higher chance of water getting into the socket under the sink than of an immersion overflowing or bursting..

Are you dabbling with plumbing issues again. Thought you'd have taken the hint

far from it, trying to keep our lovely electricity away from the dodgy plumbers water..

don't blame us, we keep it inside wires and boxes.. it's you lot who invented something that can get into the boxes and is conductive..
