How can he correct it? He won't skip the lot and start again will he? He'll never lift the tiles and remove the adhesive and level the floor will he?

If you take him to court he'll simply say he laid them on your wonky floor and that you should not have expected perfection without you first levelling it. After all, you are the project manager.

as usual the bee and queue drone pipes up with something. maybe at your place where you only use glue or silicone to lay your displays is where you should be stopping and commenting, so if someome says ive glued my tiles down any advice? we know who to send them to.

but the point is here the "tiler" agreed to do the job, he agreed the floor was sound he agreed to use the adhesive supplied. if he can not get it right he needs chance to amend it. as your not a tiler joe i dont expect you to understand.

if he is taken to court then the main question is "if you knew the floor wasnt right to tile onto, why do the job? why not correct it?" its a lot more hassle than its worth to lay on poor floors.

Pic attached taken without 'hi powered electron microscope' Hard to see so much but you can see the shadows. Skilled Tilers may notice the wonky tiles Also notice the variation in shadow is down to grout being uneven in places

it is unfortunate for you that the worst section is right in the walkway.

as stated before its not up to your expectations, get tiler back talk to him.

you never know he might be a nice guy and sort it.

Joe I think you are missing the point,firstly if he was unhappy with the substrate he should have raised it with the op before laying a tile.

Secondly it is possible to rectify differences of a few mm with the adhesive by bedding up (you can bed powdered adhesive up to 10mm)

I have laid onto some very uneven floors an still made it level,its a question of preperation finding the high spots and making allowances.

Im sure the op would rather have paid a bit more on adhesive to get a top job.

Returned took up 5 tiles, said he wanted me to get the screed chipped away before he re lays tiles.
Popped up to make phone call, back downstairs... gone. On inspection 2 more tiles chipped from taking up other tiles. ****ed off. And no i dont want to hear another **** telling me thats what i get for paying £400.

Sack the project manager. If he can't lay a straight edge onto a floor before asking a tiler to tile on it then the shouldn't be doing the job. Sorry - but you really did ask for it. You level the floor THEN lay the tiles. You were the boss - he was your employee.

i think the op was looking for advice not sla*ging off. shouldnt you be stock taking at B and Q?

if its any consolation for a day and half work its a good payout.

if hes taken the tiles up there shouldnt be any problem for him to re lay them, if he cleans them off and uses appropriate amount of adhesive to lay flat, the floor will need scraping yes, but its his job as he lifted the tiles.

did you not ask him why he still tiled if unhappy with floor?

I've given it to him. Anyone that lets someone lay 24 sq metres of tiles that are 600mm x 600mm on a wonky floor is no project manager. The floor needs LEVELLING - then you tile. Why don't you know that?
