Cooking chilli this weekend using chillis from my chilli plant for the first time, just curious as to what people add to theirs to make it unique.

Everyone seems to have different ideas and thought would run it past you lot

adding chunks of cucumber in the last few minutes of cooking adds a bit of cool crunch to the hot mixture.

I know you purists will shout me down and I don't like the bloke but his sauces are very good.

1/3 cubed beef 2/3 minced beef and toss the cubes in flour before you fry then off
loads of pre soaked dried beans kidney black eyed peas etc

get yerself some small sweet tomatoes and put them in the botton of the pot with the chilli on top

don't use crap chillie powder either get some good stuff or make your own to taste

a sweet pepper chopped works well

and MAKE some beef stock not cubes

cook it slow

enjoy

with some cold beer with a slice of lime in it (try it )

oh god what's that in the post above freakin phillistine

I dont use cubed meat, but I do have a similar ratio of mince to braising steak (cut into mouth sized pieces) as Kev does with mince / cubed meat.

If you can make it a day in advance I always find Chilli (and Curries) taste even better after a day.

Especially with a hangover

defo cook it the day before, leave it in fridge overnight,
add cheese and Worcestershire sauce
With a few bottles of ice cold organic cider, mhhh. Sounds tempting
Curry night at the old union cruiser tomorrow so best lay of the chilli tonight.

onion in it aswell, just like a crunchy texture to it, sometimes like a crunchy side salad mixed into it.

Maybe a Food and Drink forum !!! ?????????????

I personally can preach about Stella Artios for a good 10mins

theres not much better than the smell of browning mince :D

ive not made it for a while but i make mine with all decent mince, kidneys, tinned tomatoes and tomato puree, onions and peppers.

heat wise i always use a mix of hot fresh and dried chilli's, tobasco sauce and a decent chilli powder. if i want it really hot i put pretty much anything i have lying around in the fridge that will spice it up, no two chillis taste the same when i make them.

dont forget to add a little sugar too.
