I need to run some cable between 2 sheds to supply a consumer unit, what would be the cheapest and safest way of doing this? Preferably over head.

The cheapest way would be to use a competent electrician, as he will already own the several hundred pounds worth of test equipment needed to ensure a safe job, which means you wouldn't have to buy it.

If there is no chance of vehicle traffic (which it seems to be) 3.5 metres is the regulated height for over head cables.

ban all sheds you really are a t****r i've come on here asking for some advice and thats your reply i now know that cable's must be over 3.5m high if they are to be run between buildings i was just asking for peoples opinion, ever heard the saying if you havent got anything good to say don't say anything at all.

Yes.

Do you think that is all that you need to know?

What you asked was:

So since you mentioned safety, I took it that you were interested in safety.

To do the job safely requires testing, and the cost of the test equipment alone will be more than the cost of using an electrician to do the job, and since you also asked for the cheapest way, I advised using an electrician.

Just WTF do you get the idea that it's OK to abuse people because you didn't happen to like the advice they gave you, even when it was a civil, complete and valid answer to your question?

I apologise if i've cause offence but ive come on here asking for advice to install a sub main and all you've done is tell me to get a competent electrician and then in your next post imply that there is other stuff i need to know.

Bobsmate already has plenty of experience changing consumer units. See here and here so i'm sure he alrready has the required test equipment and notification procedures in hand.

Like?

Look i haven't come on here for a fight and i do sincerly apologise about what i said previuosly, i actually find this forum very helpful, i'm just not a very confident person and so like to get assurance of other people.

Don't really no what bongos problem is, as the first of those jobs has been rectified and the second was never a problem anyway.

1) I didn't go looking at his previous posts.

2) Yeah, right...
I've recently changed a consumer unit at a persons house and when i turned it on it began tripping the rcd. So now i've taken out the main rcd and moved them onto rcbo's and told the owner that i will sort out the circuits that are tripping. Now i know that with the current regs everything must be on an rcd but because i've changed it over is there anyway around not putting certain circuits on an rcd because i know that there's a fault on the cooker itself that is making the rcd trip not the circuit and also it will save him money and myself hassle if i don't have to go around and either find the faults or re-wire new circuits.

3) He clearly doesn't regard GN1 as something a competent electrician should have.

Yeah alright lads, i'm still quite young and that had been the biggest mistake i've made no need to rub it in, i now know that you must test everything before changing a CU i was just never tought to do it like this by my ex boss. You both must've made mistakes in your careers?

Its reasons like this that i now come on here and ask questions that may seem very basic to people like you.

Many, many, many. And anyway i'm only young too. ;)

I have no problem - was just suprised at the random outburst after asking for help on here before! Apologies if I caused any offence.
