Loft Raising?

hey there guys, i have just recently moved in with my mum but my younger brothers are taking up all the rooms wich means i have to share and we want to raise the loft to make a bedroom, its a terrace house wich makes it questionable... we think a raise of 3' (three foot) would be brilliant, wich in new money is about 90cm. Is this actually possible

As you are a terraced property it is extremely unlikely the planners will allow you.

and in the highly unlikely event you were granted pp the costs would likely turn out to be prohibitive.

Have you thought about dropping the 1st floor ceiling down ?

In a terrace you won't get permission to go over the existing roof line height, and the neighbours wouldn't give permission for the party walls to be raise anyway.

If the ceiling is dropped, then the normal 4" x 2" wood will be increased to 6" or 7" x 2" which should give enough support to avoid steels going in. Steels tend to mean that up to 10" of floor space can be lost.

What is the height of the 1st floor and the height to the peak in the loft are ?
