Measuring for a bend differs slightly depending on whether you are bending from end A or end B

To bend to a set distance from end B, simply align the mark with the outside of the former using a square.

For bending from end A you will need a scrap piece of conduit to determine the measurements of your former.
Mark 500mm from end A and place the mark level with the flat edge of the former and then bend the scrap piece to 90°

Now measure from end A to the back of the bend and subtract this measurement from 500.

This new figure (X) will be how much you need to add to your required measurement in order for the back of the bend to be in the right place

These instructions are for measuring to the back of the bend.
If you need to use the inside of the bend then you need to ADD the diameter of the conduit to your measurements
 
I don't blame the neighbours for objecting.

I just wish the planners had shown a bit of backbone and not allowed that **** of a property developer to spoil the neighbourhood.

Do the two bends have a gap between them or does one rad run straight into the other?

If they have a gep between, you might be as well to put a running couple between, save the headache of compound bends.

The couple would allow you to adjust how perpendicular the bends are, if you form it in one and you're out a bit, you'll have to stress the conduit to pull it to the wall.

Hadn't thought about that. Not so much the possibility of me getting it wrong (as real as that is), but the chances of the two walls actually being at a right angle, or even at the same angle all the way up.

Got some Kopex pliable - maybe I'll use that.

Unfortunately happens quite often in this area.

Look on Google Maps, postcode BH14 0BZ. The developers purchased a row of houses over a period of years, then sliced half off of a couple to make a new access road, and built 4 pairs of semi detatched houses where the back gardens were.

BH15 3SD is another one, on the north side of the road there's a mini housing estate hidden at the back of 7 other houses.

The other popular thing is to buy a large old house, knock it down and shove 3 blocks of retirement flats in there.

Knock down two semis, put a det in its place to make room for a driveway for a further 2 semis and 2 dets.

Right on the edge of the area, buy a plot of land big enough for two 5 bed detached, and build 6. Massive houses, with about 2 foot between them max.

This was a pair of semis, been knocked down and they have nearly finished building a large apartment-style building, but only 2-storey. Shame because the owner of one of the semis used to grow flowers to sell, garden was always pretty.

All within a mile of the same road!

There have been objections raised by the NIMBYs (literally) in the local parish newsletter, who want the planning rules changed.
 
every time something closes like a pub or shop or church. Another .17 luxury flats get built in Portsmouth. All ugly, all out of keeping with surrounding buildings. What a mess! There will be no public buildings outside the city centre soon. Just flats with no parking facilities.
 
Just need to plan what do do about the conduit sticking out at a right angle while I'm trying to form the 2nd bend.
That was my job as an apprentice,

Put a little level on it, hold the tube with one hand, push or pull the arm with the other.
Sometimes for bendy stuff, its easier to use the bottom of the former and pull up, rather than using the top, where the tube may hit the legs of the vice.
 
Here's an evil twist for you.

Same as you describe, only with 3 or 4 runs of conduit, and the bends are all to be concentric... :twisted:
