Hi Guys,

Wonder is anyone can help me regarding this.

I just bought 50 yorkstone slabs and was planning to lay a "patioarea" with them just outside my conservatory.

I was told to dig up a square where i wanted to lay them.

After lifting the grass i found the ground is very muddy and wet, and also It rained a bit.

Whats the right way of laying these down, straight into the mud? I thought It would be very straight forward, lift grass and place stones down. How simple... apparently not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

if youre going to do it right then it will take some hard work. crazy paving is a difficult and time consuming patio to do.

needs to be on a decent bed of mot or hardcore.

lay on a wet bed of mortar

take your time to lay it and level it, bearing in mind it will be uneven thicknesses.

good pointing makes a york stone patio, bad pointing makes it look atrocious

Thanks Thermo,

As I'm completely new to this and South African living in Surrey and never expected conditions being like they are..

Do I just level the ground (even tho its pretty muddy)?

Pour the wet mortar straight onto the mud and place the York stones on it?
Then just let it dry for couple of days.

Thanks for your help so far
