While browsing DIYnot there was a loud band. Something flew across the desk. And on investigation a mouse I was not using had exploded. Picking up the bits I found
nearest battery had gone bang. Leaving rubbish
inside the mouse. Looking down the battery hole
one can see a fair amount of this has been blasted into the mouse. Looking at the battery
there is a hole where the negative terminal should have been. Because of the design of the mouse the back was able to fire off so it does not seem to have done any physical damage to the mouse.

However I can't seem to get rubbish out of mouse. I had hoped it would simply wash out then I could leave to dry for few days but it does not want to budge any ideas.

Looked in Kitchen for tartaric acid but can't find any.
P.S. reduced picture size for here I do have original RAW files which show even better the damage.

You could give a dose of move all laxative

The chemicals from the "explosion" may have done irreparable damage to the printed circuit board / components. But if you want to try and revive the mouse then gentle brushing with a soft tooth brush might work. If available iso-propyl alcohol is a good solvent to use.

Exploding batteries are a serious hazard that needs to be reported to the shop you bought it from and/or direct to the manufacturers. Not only is there a potential loss of the item powered but also risk of injury and/or toxic materials. Fragments of exploding battery can puncture skin and penetrate into the flesh.

I thought you were going to say you'd found this little fellah with his teeth clamped around a cable...

The mouse would normally have re-chargeable cells in and I wonder if at some time the batteries had been re-charged without noting they were primary cells. But the mouse had sat there for at least 3 days unused and so the explosion was quite out of the blue.

The centre of the battery seems to be really attached to the spring
must say BAS that's a good picture. I could take my time taking picture of my mouse setting up tripod and using very slow speed to get depth of field at 1.5 seconds at f38 don't think your mouse would have stayed still enough?

Ten sockets, ( 5 doubles ) fed from a 13amp plug in a single socket on the ring ( the socket above the cup ). To the right of that socket is a pair of filtered sockets in a box fed from the Comp plug in the first of the 10 sockets. These filtered sockets feed the computer and modem with "clean" power.
