No, that's why we make consumer units out of insulating plastic so electricity can't run through them, heat them up and start a fire.

Ordinary steel wool rusts and crumbles eventually. Stainless steel is better.

However a 240 volt terminal combined with prolonged contact inside the house is what worries me, should I be concerned

If you have exposed terminals at mains voltage you should be concerned anyway, regardless of the presence or absence of wire wool.
