Hi

I Have an Ideal Icos M8020 that is about 6 years old. When its running on low demand it makes a noise like a trombone. The boiler works fine when its on a high demand.
Has anyone got any suggestions what the problem is and how can it be fixed. I think if I call in the local heating company i will get a replacement fan, then a replacement PCB, then told it cant be fixed.
The drain trap is clean, the seals in the 3m vent pipe are all good

Regards
Andrew

see if you can get your cooker to sound like drums and your fridge to sound like keyboards and you have got yourself a wee jazz trio

sorry couldnt resist

Check venturi for obstruction, give HEX a good clean.wont be PCB as boiler is still working :)

The blue PVC pipe between the gas valve and the bottom of the main casing is clean and not blocked. What do you mean by the HEX?

Hi all,

I take from your scathing comments about a local heating company that you don't trust an RGI  Firstly, messing inside your boiler is dangerous and obviously you have no idea what work is involved to fix it! Secondly, only suitably qualified and experienced RGI's can resolve your problem. Or you could ring Ideal for a fixed fee repair...

Trust has to be earned, but, that is what we (RGI's) go to college and pay large amounts of money for every year

Hi

The venturi is free of obstruction.

Can anyone recommend someone to come and solve this problem in south Warrington. :?

Hi all,

Not familiar with warrington, try the gassaferegister website. Type in your post code and get some RGI's within a 5 mile radius, ring them up and ask specifically if they work on the Ideal Isar

I would want to start with the basics of checking the gas pressures at various stages of the boiler working, then move on to other options.

Gas valve faulty out of cal on low gas probably had water in impulse pipe at some time.
Would recommend RGI to fix as you shouldnt

Sham, are we as RGI's not supposed to attempt adjusting the gas valve, only Ideal engineers, or so I thought?

To me it would be a new gas valve.

Nobody should adjust the gas valves on these boilers.

I would definately go with gas valve replacement if the gas injestor/ venturi in the fan is clear.

Regards.
