Have an ideal icos boiler. When its been on for 10 mins or there abouts. It begins to hum quite loud as you can hear it from other rooms. After its hum for 10 to 20 mins it goes quiet again.
Thinking its the fan?

Is it dangerous to run like this?
And is there an easier fix than replacing the whole fan unit?

Many thanks to all who read and respond.

It all depends on exactly what is causing the noise.

Sometimes its only casing panels resonating.

Try touching each panel when it is making the noise.

May not be the fan. Best to get the boiler serviced as described in the manual

As above, could be combustion noise indicative of a bigger problem - Icos boilers are a bit quirky and need careful attention to keep them running. When was it last serviced?

I suspect that you have not had the boiler properly serviced lately.

If the mixture is wrong, then, when the boiler modulates down it can make a farting or mooing noise. That needs an engineer to correct.

sounds like resonation to me you need to get it serviced by an engineer familiar with these boilers and not just a bloke from the pub that does gas things

Thanks all for your replies. Dont think its the casing...already pressed all the panels whilst boiler was humming.
Will will look for a plumber who is ideal boiler savvy!!
Just thought I would ask in case it was a quick fix before the plumber tries taking the mick out of me.
Thanks

Thanks. I am aware of that. But just had an elderly friend taken for a ride with a company out of the yellow pages.
Will be asking for family and friend recommendations.
