The battery on the Czech Chariot has failed, so I reserved one on-line at a nearby store and went to pick it up.

After a huge delay, I was told there was no battery for me to buy.

It makes a complete mockery of their "reserve-to-buy" and stock control systems when the computer cannot recognise when a store has no products left to sell.

Now I'm annoyed because not only have I had a wasted journey, but getting the car back on the road has been delayed.

Rant over.

That is very poor service, their stock control service appears to be none existant.
Send a strong letter of complaint, as some one needs their aris kicking, unacceptable inconvenience.

If you have tha reserve-to-buy reference number provided to you on-line (if that's how it works), I can't help but feel that compensation of some sort - even a token £10 voucher or something should be due for your time, petrol and inconvenience.

If you don't ask, you won't get, that's for sure.

Absolutely,, and it'll make them buck their idea up,,, all they really want though, is your dosh.

Roughcaster.

There's always the threat of a letter to head office, by recoreded delivery to ensure receipt!

There's an ad on tv now whihc points out what terrible barterer's we brits are. Quite the case.

Personally I try it on whenever I can, for entertainment value really. Reckon I get a discount maybe 10% or so of the time from sheds, electrical stores etc, and about 50% success from complaints. May not be much, but, heck, my money is my money and can be spent on other things.

I did that with a carpet once.
Played Carpetright off against Carpetworld on the same retail park.

Got my carpet from £23.99 sq mtr down to £12.99 AND free fitting.
Guy in Carpetworld give up in the end and said he couldn't have really done it for less than £15.99 but wanted to see how desperate the other firm was.

I can't believe I'm reading all these posts about Halfrauds! It serves you right if you get crap service; it's a supermarket staffed by people who haven't a clue what they're doing.

Do your local businesses a favour, get the Yellow Pages out and find a proper battery specialist. They will check your alternator, check your battery and only then sell you the correct battery from stock, at a discount, if you really do need a new one. Oh, and they'll happily fit it too.

Delta Batteries in Bury, Gtr Manchester for example or Radcliffe Motor Supplies in Radcliffe. (no connection etc etc.)

still alright if you want to go in and shop to loud crap boy racer music being played on the car stereo systems

I went to Halfrauds in 1968 I was so shocked at the prices I have not been back. Why do people go there! or quick fit

Well, like most people I suppose I went there a bit desperate. A car battery is usually an emergency purchase.

I love the product, but the price is steep. However, being a bit deperate, I was prepared to pay the extra just to get it there & then. That idea fell flat..

It's a Bosch Silver S5 096 battery, Halfords Ref HSB 096.

I want this one because its CCA performance is much higher than all the others. This means its ideal for cars that are not used daily, like our Skoda.

I can find many online sellers. I can find some stockists locally but they're not open today. Maybe I'm dreaming if I think I can get one today....

What surprises me is how surprised everyone seems to be here.

I thought it was common knowledge that Halfords are sh1te ... I wouldn't buy anything from them as long as I've a hole in my ar5e.
