Hi all,

I have recently bought a house to modernise and rent out. It seems that the previous person may have moved the main incomer, the reason i say that, is because the board that the henley block is on is slightly over an existing window, i wouldn't think that that would be allowed.

I have british gas/electric coming in on saturday to change the meter as it is currently on a card and i'm advised it needs to be changed to a key, i'm now thinking if the meter has been moved also, but i just don't know.

Can anybody give me any advise on how best to proceed. I'm thinking to myself that i could do with the whole lot moving a bit anyway......

Who are the people that you need to conatct in order for them to make alterations to the main incomer?

Any movements of your incoming service through to your meter are the responsibility of the DNO and your electricity provider. Anything after the meter becomes your responsibility (ie - you employ an electrician). Beware that the DNO charge ££££ for moving things though. :(

Best bet is to take a few pics of the existing installation and post them up here. Someone will then be able to give you better advice on what you can and can't do and who is responsible for what. ;)

Thanks for the help. i decided to contact central networks, who obliged with my concerns and sent an engineer around to look if the installation was safe. They came out within an hour and the chap said that it was safe, despite the fact that he thought that the meter had been moved..... he said that i needed to contact the support team if i need it moved again and this would cost quite a bit because i would have to move the supply and the meter.....

The cost was nearly £600 +VAT...... so i'm going to have to give some thought to this.

Thanks for your support

Can you not cut part of the board away so that it isn't over the window?

Is there the potential to put the meter in a different place on the board, but without moving the cutout? i.e. if the guy is fixing a new meter to the board, is it just the same to him if he puts it somewhere which makes cutting the board away easier?

Nice post ban..... like your pics

Ok, i'll take some pics and then post.....

In short the meter, the main supply and what seems to me to be a main switch are all located on the board. The configuration is as follows:

Main wire into - Main fuse - connected to meter - tails out of meter into switch - tails out of switch (live and neutral) into consumer unit. The board, which is part covering the window is full. Somebody has definitely moved the main fuse and meter around. i'll get some pics when i go up tomorrow.
