MagnaClean.

plumbers are more a all rounder.
fit bathrooms ,toilets ,and now and again fit boilers /central heating.

they couldnt know as much as somebody who has fitted central heating every working day for over 20years

New sys installed just under 3 years.
Barlo rountop rad leaking at weld. Faulty rad.
The halfwit even told her she would probably need a new HE

I know a lot of thick plumbers too but SG/BG have their fair share of idiots too.

i am not saying all plumbers please dont get me wrong i know there are many good plumbers about.
i have just left BG and started working for my self and when the gas safe guy came and i told him i worked for bg he was very happy. he told me the bg lads are by far the best.
i dont mean the ones that have only been doing it for 2/4 years .i mean the ones that have been doing it 20plus years

Heatingeng.
What do i know ..Only been in the job over 30 years, 22 of those with BG . And in a position where i seen a lot more facts and figures than normal engineers .Biggest cashg cow BG ever came up with.
Personally involved in the original power flush trials over 20 odd years ago when we used a pump pressurised up to 3 bar and shifted far more than modern machines.
Your lucky if 20% of power flush jobs are genuine . How do i know that . I had to clear up the sh#te and compliants afterwards when basics had been missed.

No i am not one who comes on ands slags them i actually defend them more than not

i was commenting on your quote about magnaclean.
latest money spinner i think you said.
i also worked at bg 20 years and was a QAE for a few years as well so i have also seen the faults but you must know as well as me that the plumbers that we bring into the business are a nightmare.

I fitted a full system every single day for near 14 years until my body wouldn't do it anymore

Btw. The above mentioned job was for an ex (retired) SG managers daughter and he is raging. I'll wait to see the outcome of that one

i am not one who comes on ands slags them

Neither am i normally but sometimes they defy belief.

It's like all the other trades now, you just can't get the staff

the standards of the newer members can be bad sometimes .so i would agree you cannot get the staff .

When i was training 40 years ago the gas board were the best, but know there like any other private company :( I've been to to many jobs over the years that they have condemned for no good reason to trust them.
and like as already been said you cant get the staff. If gas fitters only did gas and plumbers water none of us would have any work.

Power flushing , seems to be the answer to everything , alot of systems are power flushed & dont require it , but than again customers cant see through metal !!!! as for effiency gains ???? you would probably , gain more by stripping the layers of paint off of some old rads ???? boiler protection is important flushed or not , Plumbers , usual snipe , should be un-blocking drains , fitting toilets ect ect , usual twaddle !!

Magnaclean yep cash cow its being sold on fear that peoples systems will fall apart without it . 250 Quid to fit one? cost BG around 40 quid or less . System already drained so a lot of money for 15 minutes work .

Also if powerflush is that good why would it need one .

Plumbers ,never used them it was BG guys missing stuck motorised valves, stuck trvs . stuck anti gravity valves ,closed lock shields and under gassed boilers etc etc.

2 jobs i have gone to recently to give second opinions on powerflush.

1. 75 Year old pensioner not sleeping and worried sick about 700 quid bill . Why air release nipple on rad leaking so new rad req .
2. Rad not working on a drop, AIR , 5 minute fix.

feking joke.

i would advise a magnaclean on every job new or old. better to keep a system clean than it is to clean it once its knackered the heat exchanger .so i would say thats good advice.

i personally dont think that BG charge that much for the magnaclean installation. £250 and then its covered on homecare and they will clean it out each year for free. well worth it .

as for powerflush. i would say if a magnaclean is fitted it should stop the need for a powerflush .

i think you will find that many plumbers are quoting for powerflushes now.i have even seen them advertised as an yearly service  which is very wrong.
