Hi - Just had my gas meter moved to a nice new semi submerged box and the work done by SGN looks pretty good. That said, the plumber who has then hooked us up again has run the pipe to the house 4 inches from the wall, 1 inch from the ground and 12 inches parallel to the wall before taking it through the wall. I am a little concerned that someone could stand on this a cause it to break. I had a little look under the floor also and note that he's run the pipe through the dwarf walls, sheathed in plastic pipe, but not tied it down in anyway, its just sitting there. Dwarf walls are about 2 m apart. Are there regs for this kind of install? Does this sound dodgy to anyone else?
Cheers.

Dunno. There is nothing forcing it to do that. Looks to me like that is roughly where the exit aperture of the meter box is. I'd have thought you'd want to take it through a 90deg bend as it comes out the box and straight into the wall. If not into the wall then another 90deg bend and take it along the wall. But I'm a spark not a plumber. Are there regs?

Only thing I can think of is that an extra bend has an effect on gas flow calculations. It may be that he worked it out all accurately. On the other hand, he might have been a lazy unimaginative bar steward :?

even IF the extra bend was causing a prob (he could have upped the first section to 28mm) the pipe needs to be clipped properly every 2m horizontally so jobs a bad 'un get him back

You are lucky they usually just drill a hole and lift a board or 2 and shove it right through. Do you crawl around clipping cables under floors at every job or just sling it where it needs to go? You don't need to answer that one cos i know.
Are there regs?
Yes but not for that.

Why did he run it so far (4") from the wall? because it was easier and the boy wasn't too bright

even IF the extra bend was causing a prob (he could have upped the first section to 28mm) he is a meter fitter without the pipe, fittings or brains for that one the pipe needs to be clipped properly every 2m horizontally it only goes for a foot and is supported both sides so jobs a bad 'un get him back

If you are not happy with it tell them. You will get it altered no problem.
