When my Vaillant ecotec system boiler is in operation, every so often I get a little gush of water from an opening underneath. highlighted on this picture
Unlike the picture, the opening is not attached to any pipe!

Is it the condensate drain? Surely it should be attached to something?!

The boiler was installed by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

in the meantime, can you advise what sort of pipe i can buy from a big national (screwfix, wickes etc) to fix on and collect the water in a bucket?

Why would you pay someone to do a job, and then when it's not right "fix it yourself" doesn't make sense !!!! where is the condensate pipe running to ?

1. Because I wont get hold of him til next week, and I want to use my boiler over the weekend without puddles on my worktop.

2. I dont really know if it IS the condensate. There are 2 pipes on the right, as per the diagram above, and the one on the far right does have a plastic pipe running at a right angle out of the house. But the one next to it, HAS NO PIPE - ie the spout comes out of the underside of the boiler, so the liquid just comes straight down.

how does someone forget to fit the condense lol The worst i've ever done is forgot the filling loop, but obviously didnt leave it like that :D

you're not making me feel any better about this.

maybe i'm naive, but i assumed that if i've got the gas safe cert., it must have all been fitted correctly

Unless its been inspected then it would have been self certified by the installer. Its his word its correct.

can you post a picture under the boiler so we can see it? You say there is a plastic pipe heading outside, normally that would be the condensate pipe unless he has piped the pressure relief discharge in plastic.

You can see the white pipe on the far right- the open 'spout' is on its immediate left (per above diagram) but no really visible in the photo

the white plastic one is the condense, should be pushed over the plastic pipe coming out of the boiler. maybe its fell out seeing as its not clipped and travelling uphill
im not gonna make any further comments on the installation :)

i don't (think you quite) understand. the white plastic pipe IS attached to the last spout on the right. are you saying it should be attached instead to the spout on its left?

so where's the water coming from then?? take a picture of where the water is coming from.
there is 5 connections on this boiler and you have 5 pipes going to where they are, so i really dont get whats going on...

i have to admit it's a bit of a lousy photo. Will post a much nicer (sharp) one on Sat nite (if you're still interested!)

Re your previous comment, I thought that it did look rather messy...does that mean it's not safe? Should I pay someone (how much?) to inspect the installation?
