Hello everybody,

Does anyone have a ball park figure they would suggest for the following work, done and certified by a part p, all to latest regs?

- new consumer unit
- rcd install for electric shower
- earth bonding gas/water
- installation of electric cooker point

I live in a 2 bed conversion flat in the south-east.

Thanks for any pointers.

£4 - 500 depending on the location of the points and CU in relation to the bonding etc..

£300 for the CU ( bonding included as it's a requirement )
£50 each for the shower and cooker points..

Thanks for the reply.

The gas/water pipes are in the kitchen and the CU is in the landing cupboard (about 6/7 metres apart).

The "main" (something, electric entry to property perhaps, not sure what exactly) is in the flat below (downstairs).

I've been quoted £850

well then that's how much it will cost..
they've been and seen the job and we haven't...

we don't know any dificulties etc that they've spotted or the state of the current install which may need some work to make it compatible with the new CU ( borrowed neutrals etc.. )

we also don't know the prevailing rate round there or any mitigating circumstances such as having to pay £20 for a days parking etc...

Being in hampshire, so not that far away the price they have quoted doesn't sound too bad to me, As Jack says without seeing the job it is very difficult to give an accurate guide cost, plus there are other variables such as the make of CU they have selected for the job and the method of circuit protection (ie RCBos cost more than MCBs), your contractor will have selected what is best for the installation. It doesn't sound like a mad price with 3 decimal places so I would think its not too bad, you can always get other quotes though ;)

I see you reside in Surrey , Tony Cable was on rogue traders and advised that half an hours labour in the London areas is about £55 quid so thats why Coljacks estimate would differ , all you can do is get a few quotes

Hi

Does the firm who quoted have a good reputation?

Martin

- new consumer unit £350-450
- rcd install for electric shower £90-120
- earth bonding gas/water £150.
- installation of electric cooker point £150

Sounds about right, if they have a good reputation, I would go with them rather than save fity quid and perhaps get some cowboy. Just my opinion. Someone with a reputation has something to protect.

prices quoted sound about right except if having new consumer unit then no need for seperate RCD for shower.
