The End of frozen condense pipes.

ok so who is going to invent a purpose made condense pipe.
most people just use overflow or 32mm waste pipe.no purpose made pipe made yet.
i suggest a pipe in pipe system.
32mm then internally foam lagged then overflow pipe inside.
standard fittings could be used with a little effort.
pipe in pipe system would need to start in the property so a small draw back as a hole needs to be drilled.
this will sell.

Seems alot of effort and expense for a problem that hardly arrises, they are only flavour of the month. Time and money would be better spent if the condensatewas taken to an internal waste pipe. Just my opinion mind you, also trace heating with a frost stat is readily available.
 
People have very short memories, short hands and deep pockets, if you add this to "your" quote which will make you dearer, you wont get the work, middle of summer, talking about cold weather, it will go in one ear out the other just like everything else, pipe through wall neat and disappear, or drill through worktop and on show, guess which they go for, answers on a postcard.

32mm is the minimum pipe diameter specified somewhere, so you can't reduce that bore with insulation.

A 32mm pipe with sealed external lagging would be better. The condense still freezes at the discharge, or the cold air cools the pipe walls below freezing and the condense then freezes onto the pipe and eventually blocks it.
 
I thinking about when running out side( only option) and the run is long. to make a massive Siphon dump tank.

minimum of 10 liters at a time. like to see that freeze in one go :LOL:
 
Is this problem on all Condensing boilers ?
Or is it just Condensing Combi boilers and Condensing Conventional boilers are OK ?
 
Just had my boiler fail symbol flashing so I called the emergency help line and a message said they had an unprecedented number of calls and to check the condense pipe isn't blocked.
I discovered it was frozen along it's entire 3mtre length as presumably the water had backed up after the outflow froze up and after attempts with boiling water and heat gun I finally sawed it off 6" below where it came out of the wall, a plug of ice slid out followed by about 2 litres of water from the boiler
. The boiler fired up with no problems and I wonder how many people will sit with no heating if they can't access the pipe.
When I renew it I'll make sure it's joints can be pulled apart or put an overflow slot near the top so if the water backs up it can escape
 
even if you put a overflow pipe in a waste pipe with lagging it wouldnt work i have done this many times. its not about lagging the pipe. lagging keeps the temp of the inside of the pipe ie condensate water. because the condensate is cool the lagging keeps the condensate cool making in cold weather it will freeze. also as it have a open end the temp inside the pipe drops and this makes the condensate freeze i have found one way of stopping it freezing and this was by using a trace wire down the pipe but is expensive. i try and fit the pipe on a wall that doesnt tent to get much wind but this will still freeze in the end. i have heard of a air con unit that blasts condensate out of the flue using a little jet this seems like a good idea as it only pumps when the boiler is running many aircon, gas, electricians agree with this idea dunno what you lot think of it
 
The refrigeration industry has used trace heating on it's condensate pipes for years, it is cheap and reliable. Of course the best option is to route the condenate internally to a regularly used waste pipe.... Too many folk trying to overthink the plumbing with clever gizmos that will prove problematical...
 
just found out this product is available in the uk but not used due to cost.
when i asked the cost i was told same price as 22 mm copper tube and fittings same as compression 22 mm fittings.
also this product is guranteed to stay freeze free when covered with snow.


back to the drawing board.

Sales bulshit.... Snow can be on the pipe at 0c but my area is down to minus 12c and many areas are colder... Sooner or later it will freeze
 
Get some type of small purpose made drain type ?? cock incorperated into the condensate pipe prior to it exiting the building , so a hose or tube can be attached & run into a bucket ?? maybe ??

codensate is technically conected to the flue ??? I installed a gloworm flexicom on xmas eve & I noticed that the condensate water is warm ?? were as on a J&S it is cold ???
 
Stop moaning :rolleyes: The planet is being saved and Gas Safe fitters are getting richer. Long live the condensing boiler :mrgreen:
