How deep underground should incoming water mains be?

Today we got water mains upgrade to 32mm but no one at severn trent actually told us how deep underground the mains should be going to the property.

Is there a standard depth in accordance with building regs?

The BRegs don't stipulate a standard depth but the Utility Companies will. UU produce an excellent fact sheet here:-

It states a minimum figure of 750mm below GL. I doubt others vary.

Thanks... Just read my subject dont know what happened lol doesnt make sense.

Its at about 500mm at the moment so will dig trenches a bit more deeper... but as theres no drive down yet im sure once hardcore and drive has been lated it will be 750mm deep quite easily.

It just needs to go deeper than Jack. F.

You have to comply with the law.....'Water Supply (Fittings) Regulations 1999' which is quoted in the above ST doc.

Also you should be an 'Approved Plumber' to self certify and get the water company to inspect your new pipe before they do the final connection to the main. They often don't bother to inspect but insist they do need to be notified.

Blue plastic pipe and related fittings are quite possibly the easiest to fit. They are hand tightened and slot together with a minimum of fuss.

You would need to be a complete idiot to get them wrong.

Why this would need to be inspected is any one's guess.

Thanks for responses, ST have been kept in touch all the way through but they are the hardest company to get through to even for the simplest of enquiries.
