Strong Gas Smell after new Gas Work on Boiler HELP Please!

I Agree, if you are going to do any work which involves disconnecting/connecting any part of the pipework/appliances you should always do a TT before starting so that if there is a leak, it is found before you make any alterations. It's good practice to do a test beforehand and only takes a few minutes.
Also what some others have said, he could have re-piped the whole house in a day!
And its a bit mental that when he offered to stay the night, you actually let him!
Whats wrong with capping the whole lot and going home to come back the next day.

First thing you do is a tightness test, just to cover your back if nothing else.

The thing is I he told he did a check before he started to work on the meter connecting the new pipework.

I guess what you're all saying before any thing is touched do a test and report it to the owner.

Q what would you do if there was a 3.5mb drop in a property you checked and you hadn't done any work.

Inform the owner/responsible person.

I went to a small job, and did a test before I started, and it dropped like a stone from a great height.

High pressure supply, running at 67mbar, and virtually every joint on a 2" supply was leaking, about 50 of them. cost = thousands to unscrew and remake every join.

Had I not tested and got it witnessed I could have been held responsible for disturbing it.

Of course the second job would be to test the test equipment.
