Long story short, student accomidation there's a £250 deposit and someone has damaged this door. In order to get their £250 deposit back we need to repair the door to a reasonable state. The door seems to consist of two plywood layers with a cardboard layer at 90 degrees to the door surface itself. The height of the damage is about 40cm with a 20 cm base

Anyone have any ideas how we can manage to repair this to a reasonable state?

Thanks in advance

its a £30 door all you can try is a sheet off material to cover the door
personally come clean pay for its replacement off around £80 maybe cheaper if they have an in house handy man

Trying to fix that door is a waste of time, effort and money.

I would suggest looking for a second hand sapele door in your local free ads - you can usually pick them up for £5-£10. Just make sure the measurements are the same and the hinges are on the same side. If the broken one is a fire door (often the case in student accommodation) you will have to replace it with another one of the same spec. I'm sure the landlord won't worry about using a different handle if necessary.

 I suppose you could just put a couple of health and safety notices over the damage and hope nobody removes them!

I would this to be a fire door, these were called egg box doors due to their cardboard interiors. Anyway this one is well past repair, and any you attempt would be easily spotted by the Landlord.

It's not a fire door it's just a door to a bathroom within the room in the university halls of residence.

Assumming it will be housekeeping whole will check the rooms for damage in the next week or so when we leave. Since they have 270 rooms to check I doubt it's going to be a thorough inspection, just a quick glance for any noticable damages.

Is there any reason why you shouldn't pay for repairing the damage?

So what are you doing about this door?

The only cheap easy repair is to get a sheet of something and stick it over the door. Chances are that's what the landlord would do anyway.

Or tell them what happened and accept the consequence.

You'd spot a repair a mile away,, get a new door and have it fitted,,,,, end of.

If it's halls of residence they are not going to overcharge. They buy these things by the pallet full. Better still, find the maintenance man and offer him £30 - no questions asked.
