Hi guys, was wondering if anyone could help. I have recently bought a bungalow which has a relatively new shower (manual mixer) and a combi boiler installed. It's a really nice powerful shower but on it's coldest setting it's still pretty hot and as the summer comes I am gonna be wanting a cold shower now and then!

Could anyone advise me on how to fix the problem?

Cheers, Matt

I'm not sure of the make and model - there are no manufacturers markings on it. It is like a stainless steel t-bar that comes out of the wall and has rotating ends. One end for turning it on and the other for the temperature control.

If this is still no help then I'll take a pic when I get home from work and post it up. Thanks

Edit: it looks just like the one at the top of this link:

Will need pic then as all manufacturers make showers like the one in the pic, but it sounds like the thermostatic cartridge may need replacing anyhow,

The hot water is fed from the combi, but where is the cold coming from?

check that the hot is plumbed in on the left (as you look at the shower) seems to be a common installation error to get the hot and cold supplies the wrong way round.

charnwood - no idea where the cold is fed from mate but i know it's there because the temp does change hotter when you move the dial

Picasso - yeah i think it's plumbed in right because when i move the dial hotter, the water gets super hot, just doesnt go very cold

plumbgas - here's the pic mate, if its not what you want then i can take more :)

Sometimes the dial on the temp control will only turn so far. Try turning it down with the dial head removed.

i played around with the shower last night and set it on it hottest setting (which was scalding!) then i turned the dial to its coldest and it did go cold for a few seconds before it got hot again...

I'm thinking that this means it is something to do with the thermostat so does anyone know how to change the thermostat on one of these shower types?

Here's the shower pic link again //www.diynot.com/network/Mattboyslim/albums/

Chances are that you don't have a manual mixer but a thermostatic one with a knackered cartridge.
Another option is a cowboy boiler install where they left the bathroom cold supply from the tank.

With the boiler dhw thermostat on max, how much does the shower temp change when you turn the control from one end to the other?

If you turn the stopcock for the whole house off, what happens when you open the shower?

Im no shower expert, but is your combi not turned up to high if its scalding.
