Downlighters with larger(longer) clamp springs

Does anyone know a brand of downlighters that have longer than normal clamp springs.

Some downlights in a basement are basically falling out of the ceiling. When i inspected them the holes have been ripped ragged everytime someone changesthe lamp. I think the reason for this is that the ceiling was boarded over so it is now two ceiling depths thick and the springs arent locking down flat when pushed in the hole and its basically wedging the light in place rather than clamping it. So everytime its removed its tearing another bit of plaster board from round the edge and likewise everytime its put back in. Someone has actually placed sealant around the rims to keep them in.

Rather than lift the now renewed,and painted floorboards to get at the light i thought if someone knows a brand of lights with longer springs this would do the trick. Sorry forgot to add the basement room is in fact a bathroom so i would like IP65 rated lights.

I know what you mean but I do not know of an off-the-shelf solution.

You may need to get creative with some wire coat hangers or something similar.

The root cause of the problem (apart from the double boarding) seems to be that you have to take the whole unit out of the ceiling? Why? is it to change the bulb? Do you really need IP65 lamps? How high is your ceiling?

Why not replace with LED or CFL bulbs that offer much longer lifetimes.

Longer retaining springs do exist. Try somewhere like WF.

There are some that use a built in spring to the supporting arms above the ceiling as opposed to the ones that are tensioned by the legs that force against the rim of the hole.
It is them legs that tend to rip apart the board.
Try auroura as im sure they do some though it may vary per style and you may need to see them in person to clarify.

Your right about the root cause but i can hold my hands p and say not me guv, a handyman used to come in and do it. I want to go CFL and wanted to use the click with megaman units. I like IP65 a because its in a basement with a living room and floorbaords above and b they have the little silicon seal around the light which helps prevent condensation/moisture penetration into the void. nI looked at the TLC converters but they specifically exclude bathrooms. I found others for bathrooms but they are £26 a pop.

TLC do JCC down lights which have and adjustable slot for the springy arms - you can move them up so that they will grip onto a double thickness ceiling

Do all the JCC range have these adjustable positions. The idea looks perfect unfortunately the hole is about 70mm and that one is 62mm. I note there are others in the TLC catalogue but i cant see the clip holders.
