Sharia law

TB

This is why i sometimes wonder if its worth correcting some of their ridiculous views. I question someones intelligence when they claim islam states you either follow it or get killed, and other such nonsense.

These people seem content to believe the complete nonsense they hear down the pub, and the rubbish they read from online Anti-Muslim bloggers like Robert Spencer, Pat Robertson, Pam Geller and mad Melanie Phillips, as well as the rubbish the read on the EDL forums.

I'm all up for debate if its worth your while. I have yet to see any EDL member win a proper debate with anyone over Islam, Shariah etc, as the EDL's views are built up around misconceptions and lies which simply cannot be defended in an intellectual discussion/debate.

Mick Moodey
So do people follow the Koran religiously, as intended, or do they take little pieces of it, and say, yes to this, no to that?
Normally I'd advise anyone to take Mickymoodey's blatherings with a iceberg-sized pinch of salt, but in this case he's hit on something.

Does the Quran advocate killing, injuring or persecuting people who question it? Or who insult it? Or who do not follow its commandments?
Does the Quran advocate its followers whooping and cheering in the streets when non-believers / enemies of the state suffer death?
Does the Quran advocate disobeying the laws of the land you live in?
Does the Quran advocate killing other human beings, be they Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Sikh or even other Muslims?

If - as I suspect you'll tell me - it does not, then why do so many people who claim to be Muslim engage in the above practices?

I can tell you for a fact that the Christian bible does not support any of the above practices, but the vast majority of people who claim to be Christian are guilty of disobeying the commands in their holy book.
Pretty much the same goes for the Jews too.
(Cant comment on Sikhism or Hinduism as I don't know enough about their respective religions)

Have you read the Quran/Koran? Do you actually know anything about Islam...
I haven't but then I haven't read the Bible either because I vehemently disagree with the parts of it which I have read.

One thing I do know is that people can, and do, take the p*ss out of the Christian faith but if anything similar thing is said, or drawn, about your faith all hell breaks lose!

That does not put your faith in either a good or tolerant light IronNaz. I eagerly await your answers to Ricardus's post please..

Its good that we now have someone to answer realistic and specific questions in the debate....

It will hopefully give us all a more balanced point of view.

Sadly but true ALL religeon is a load of old b######x based on the thinking of tyrannical old men a couple of thousand years ago to control

They are all based more or less on the same fantasies and fairy stories and how they still have any control today is a mystery to me.

Personally I wish they would all just fade away into our less enlightened past where they belong

How can you say that SC? Every body has the right to believe in what they want to believe in.
This is simply your opinion and not a proven fact.
Religion brings hope to people, perhaps people in hopeless situations. For some it brings meaning to our very existence.
I am not religious but I dont th ink it is right to scorn religion or its believers.

My son believes in the tooth fairy and father xmas and that buzz lightyear is a real person he is 4

If he still believes when he is 18

I shall be very worried

It's time for humans to grow up these fantasIes you defend have caused more bloodshed and horror in the world than any other thing I can think of

But if someone faith or that person is intolerant of having their faith scorned then why do it in the first place?
It’s in my culture to have a sense of humour, learn the truth and most of all freedom of speech. When The Life of Brian came out I personally found it hilarious and what’s more Christians didn’t go around issuing fatwa’s or burning effigies like they did over Salman Rushdie's Satanic Verses.

You cannot compare faiths in this way as they are totally different. It isnt that simple.
What is simple is when someone or some ‘faith’ purports not to spill blood and then declares war on anyone who mocks it. Either it says you do spill blood to defend the faith, (which is abhorrent), or you don’t spill blood to defend you faith, (which makes those who do a hypocrite). So which is it?

If you do scorn someones faith knowingly that you will insult them deeply and get a reaction then you are being confrontational and asking for trouble and you are at fault , not them nor their faith. I am sure you can understand this?
No, I completely disagree with you and for one good reason which is exactly what religions have primarily always done – control! You are controlling what people can say or do! We would still think the Earth is flat with that kind of doctrine.

People of all faiths, in particualr christians, engage in many of the above practices.

I can tell you for a fact that the Christian bible does not support any of the above practices, but the vast majority of people who claim to be Christian are guilty of disobeying the commands in their holy book.

agree completely. You cannot judge a faith based on the actions of its followers, especially when they act against its fundamental values.

We dont appreciate people mocking our faith no as its something very dear to us. Most Muslims follow their faith to some extent, it pretty much determines what we can and cannot eat or drink, how we conduct ourselves, how we do business etc etc

In terms of what others think off us, that doesnt really concern us too much. Islam will rarely get a good press in the west considering the most influential media companies are owned by right wing zionists who seem to do well with anti-muslim stories, even to the point a number of them are made up, i.e. the lies about Muslim only loos in toilets, the lies about Muslims wanting christmas banned to name but a few.
