Is Magnaclean the best?

Fit the 28mm dirt seperator on the return and a 28mm air seperator on the flow. This is the ideal location for each unit, as water is most aerated at its hottest point ie the flow, and for obvious reasons its preffered to put the dirt seperator on the return although not essential as it can take several passes to remove sediment.
I will add though that I prefer the TF1 as it removes more magnetic debris on the first pass.

Might it be a good option to fit a 28mm Spirotrap MB2 on the return next to boiler and an aav next to HW cylinder as suggested in a previous post?

Anyone recommend a good aav unit (some of them look like they need to be soldered on and I'd want one with a compression fitting to make it easier for installation)?

The TF1 might also be worth checking out (I'm a little dubious about plastic fittings and threads).

The magnaclean has had too many bad reviews for my liking.

Also, the Spirocombi comes in a 25mm option too.

AAV's usually come with either a 1/2" or 3/4" male thread, you then put this into a copper to iron.

I completely agree that they are fantastic for collecting black sludge, especially if you tip some X400 in (even after you think it is clean)

However I have regretfully to agree that they tend to leak, both from the screw-on cap (I cleaned mine and lubed it with silicone grease which has worked for the moment) and from the shut-off valves which seem to be quite poor.

Adey must be wishing he'd paid more attention to build quality when he started out cornering the market.

^Completely agree, never understood why Adey didn't make a brass version, I guess the tooling and manufacturing costs? We were issued with replacement lid orings to replace the red ones which were meant to solve the leaking problems and to be honest I haven't come across a leaking lid for ages so it must of done the trick, but sometimes getting the lid of can be a bit of a nightmare and I often put a bit of silicone grease round them once they are cleaned. I didn't mind fitting the magnacleans as I new the customer was getting a good product that did definately protect their boiler, I am still to be convinced with the magnabooster as everyone I have cleaned I have never got seen any crap come out, but for ease of fitting and maintenance they do have it over the magnaclean.

Problem with the magnabooster v's the magnaclean is you can't confirm the MB is actually cleaning anything. Open the MC and you can remove the magnet sheath and clean crap off it. Open the drain cock on an MB and for all you know it's just dirty system water coming out, you have no way of knowing it's actually trapped particles coming out. They are now also saying that the filter part holds lots of particles that are not removed when you open the draincock and as we currently can't clean that it stands to reason it may eventually become ineffective.

The MB was "proved" to work at a BG manufacturer evening on a test rig but I seem to remember thinking it was a bit of snake oil showmanship at the time as I think it was a plastic model of an MB doing the work.

The first scrap MB I remove is going to be tested in my back garden, 'til then I remain unconvinced.

Adey were given the opportunity to sort the MC by BG and they refused.

I see. Provided the particles stay trapped in the bottom of the filter, they won't be going any harm.

The only way of demonstrating that a filter works is to take samples of the water at regular intervals and test them with a TDS meter and chemical test packs.

It's interesting to read the Remeha Water Quality Regulations. They are mainly for commercial installations, but I wonder how many domestic installations would meet their requirements.

But the particles are not staying at the bottom at the magnet, this is particles that are stuck higher up in the gauze filter part.

Presumably the manufacturer have done those tests, mine however will be slightly more simple.
