The problem will, as usual, be the oven connections, which are probably sized by the manufacturer for 2.5 max cable rather than 4mm.
As BAS highlighted you will need to use crimps - it is something I do when connecting ovens and cookers - just make sure you use a proper one with a ratchet function.

hi once again, you must be getting fed up with all these questions but i need to know. so i believe that to connect 4mm wire to oven i have to use the yellow things which i put on the end and squash so it fits into the hole, then use the other ring end to connect to oven. is it only the oven? is the hob ok with 4mm and do i need to change the fuse in consumer box or does this still stay the same at 30

from what you say the continent can use 2.5mm but i have to use 4mm is this all ok

wish id done a course in electrics!!!

The yellow thing is a crimp and I would put on both the oven and hob connections - BUT they have to be done correctly otherwise they can cause problems. There is no need for them when they meet the click dual plate.

The other option, as already mentioned, is to have the oven and the hob on their own separate circuits but.......

Chrissy, I think it might be time to get an electrician in to fix it for you.

hello well you might be right, although i understand what you have written and how to do it i might have to get electrician in, i will think on it.
im afraid i usually put my hand to anything but gas. im so worried about the cost as i have limited funds, but i might have to bite the bullet, dont like to fail, typical virgo.

They can be used here, it's just that they can be more awkward to install.

In mainland Europe they have 16A socket circuits, and unfused plugs, so it's common for makers to design appliances which can just plug straight in, e.g. your 3.4kW oven.

In the UK our plugs are fused, because our socket circuits are 30/32A, not 16A, but the maximum fuse you can get is 13A, so no good for your oven. Cooker circuits are also at least 30/32A, but you can't put a fused connection unit on one because again, the maximum fuse is 13A.

So on the one hand you can't plug it in, or connect it to an FCU, but on the other you can't (easily) connect it directly to the cooker circuit because you'll need a cable which is (probably) too big to fit the terminals in the oven. They were designed for 1.5mm² - 2.5mm² conductors, not 4mm².

Hence the advice that you may well need to crimp ring terminals onto the ends of a 4mm² cable so you can attach it to the oven.

The purpose of the fuse/MCB is to protect the cable from dangerous overheating if there's an overload or a fault. Clearly that won't work if it will let through enough current to damage the cable.

With a 16A circuit you're OK with a 1.5mm² or 2.5mm² cable, as both of those can carry 16A.

With your 30A circuit you need a larger one (actually, because rewirable fuses aren't as sensitive as MCBs, you need a cable rated at 41A on a 30A fuse).

hi me again ive decided that i will get a electrician in and at moment have had 2 one has told me £200 and the other i am awaiting a quote.
ive also realized that he must have a p certificate, didnt know that amazing what ive learnt so far, that was after i picked myself off the floor.
seriously thinking of taking samsung oven and hob back just to find a simpler one. thanks for all your help, chrissy
