No. An oil resistant jointing compound is. If the pipe is soft copper, an insert is advised to enable the correct compression action of the olive.
Rocol "Oilseal" or "Heldite" are the best compounds for sealing oil pipes
(don't get either on anything like a carpet etc!!)

The terminology used is joints should be mechanical. Apart from flared, this encompasses screwed and also compression. As said, compression fittings should have inserts.
