I was wondering how to go about setting up sockets outdoors the setup i'm for is a essentially an extension cable, if it was one socket setup i wouldn't have an issue its the secondary socket to the decking that I'm not sure how to do. How would i wire it i have the usual twin and earth and the weatherproof sockets its just the circuitry. Suggestions please??

Looking at your diagram it suggests this is going to be a trailing lead that you put through the window/door and plug into a 13A socket when you want to use it?
If so what you are looking at is a 'Daisy Chain' set up. I don't know if its allowed but how about 2 trailing sockets with the second one plugged into the first one. When you have finished with it for the day simply unplug everything and stow away indoors. Any trailing cables should be safely out of the way of people tripping over them. If you are looking at something more permanent I'm sure a 'spark' on here will be able to give you good advice.

thanks Conny i think i'll probably do that diary chain method would save me time and energy. i figured if i was to do a more permanent solution i would have to consider things like parallel circuits to prevent dilution of the power but thats a total assumption, thanks again. and thanks also for your suggestion ban all sheds.

The questions you are asking, the assumptions you are making, and the unsuitable materials you are planning to use show that you are not even remotely competent to be installing external electrical supplies.

Thats the problem nothing in place to stop incompetant DIYers to buy all the parts they think they need to carry out electrical works. See it all the time and the majority of clients are not intrested in making the installation safe and have never herd of part P why should they pay a competant Electrician to do the work when theres always a chancer down the pub that will undercut and do it on the cheap.
We need proper regulation in this trade and sooner rather than later !

I imagine he means 'tighter' regulations as in the Gas trade.
I.E. No DIY allowed except bare minimum such as changing a bulb or possibly a 13A plug. (Even this can go wrong despite most plugs having a little cardboard diagram attached. If they do get that part right will they fit the correctly rated fuse for the application?)

And the Gas Regulations prohibit DIY work where, exactly?

Tighter regulations mean nothing.
If your going to do it your going to do it what ever regulations are in place.

I guess it depends on what you would like to achieve. As has been discussed here many times before, if it were reduction/avoidance of deaths and serious injuries that you were interested in, then you'd probably be advised to be campaigning for regulation/restriction of the use of ladders, DIY power tools, DIY car maintenance etc. etc. than anything to do with electrical installations.

Kind Regards, John.

Thing id Scooby came here to ask how to do it, what is so hard about explaining that rather than just fall back on the usual get an electrician in method?

Why can you guys not simply explain how to wire up a temporary circuit for use on this chaps decking?
Explain why he is wrong and how it should be done.
