Sky

We cancelled our Sky package a few months ago, but still have the box and the satellite dish all in place.

We (well my son) wants to have sky sports but we are struggling to persuade sky that we only want sky sports and nothing else and that therefore we should only have to pay the £20 for the "upgrade pack" and not the £20 for the standard TV package (which we don't want) then a further £20 on top of this.

What do you reckon on our chances? I post this on here since there may be some of you who would really like the same sort of deal, and I'll let you know how it goes. On the other hand, if you are of a similar mind, perhaps you could try to negotiate a similar £20 only package for sky sports since this might help develop a market for it which sky would then consider taking up. :)

Well, worth a punt anyway

They will try and keep you happy as they don't want to lose you, to cut a long story short my son moved out in his rented flat and Sky moved free of charge their Sat/disc to my property hoping I might sign up!

My friend also wanted me to fitted an aerial for their freeview box because they couldn't afford the Virgin cable so I rang them and they offered monthly half price deal! I usually find if you closed their account they will find a way to keep your custom. It's stupid because everyone is paying difference prices for the same service!

Good luck!

Thanks masona - I hope to get it all sorted in time for the Olympics, which coincides with the end of his exams (and thus not create the distraction which led to getting rid of it in the first place!!)

Have you tried BT Vision they do sports 1 and 2 and ESPN I believe.

My experience of Sky is you've got about as much chance of getting that package as there is of me beating Usain Bolt in a 100 meter sprint... I reckon he'd take it by a whisker! :p

Sky aren't interested in nor do they provide 'bespoke' services. You have to have a basic TV package in order to sign up to Sports and/or Movies.

Yes thats so sub101, probably the worst thing you did was actually cancel and then want it back..the threat to cancel is always your best lever with Sky.
Reading your post has actually just made me phone Sky to check my package...like you we only really want the Sport, at the moment they throw in the Entertainment Package (Discovery, History etc) for us for 75p a month (£4.25 discount) and I have just come off a six month full 25% discount which I negotiated by having a whinge
Apparently you can have just Sky Sports one for £12 a month and with this you get the option to alternate (via a phonecall) to Sky Sports two if there is something you want to watch on there.
I already feel as if I have lost the plot, but hope it makes some sense...good luck anyway :)

Well I've learned something today. Didn't think they offered a 'Sports Only' package.

NOOOOOOOOO.....maybe I didn't explain it right...you have to have the basic Sky but you can have 'just' Sky Sports one for £12 instead of £20 for the complete sports package...phew...think thats it ;)

Ah! Thank you for the clarification Susie.

We have phone, broadband and tv with sky, phoned up cos we needed to reduce our outgoings. Tried to knocknsome of the channels we dont watch, but theyre very clever with how they put together the packages, wanted to get rid of the documentarys and news channels, but we would lose the childrens channels! Cant miss my spongebob so couldnt change it, but as a cost saving they gave us free line rental on the phone for six months which is better than nothing!
Always phonenthem and try to get your bill reduced, the operators seem to have some ways to keep you happy!
As for the sky sports only package youve got two chances....slim and none! ;)

well sky have just won the rights to air all the james bond films in place of itv so now you can all watch "Dr no" for the six hundreth time !! . Im on virgin and im made up not to watching bond on christmas day any more

Tell 'em your phones been hacked, and you'll get it all for free forever, well, that is until OFCOM see's sense and remove sky's broadcasting licence.
