Removing pump - WB 24cdi

Hi all,

I didnt want to resurect an old thread but i'll ref here if thats ok:

Basically, thats the same symptoms im facing just now with the same boiler. I've opened the front of the pump and the screw moves when I turn it but doesnt budge when I run the DHW. Water coming out is clear but was initially dirty. I just get lots of banging, pressure through the roof and steam via AAV.

Im looking to see if someone could help me with removing the head to have a look and see if there is anything blocked in it? Would call someone in but broke as hell just now. Only in this house circa 6 months and just replaced two joists in the bathroom due to leaking shower base , the boiler is now on the blink and......workman just chapped my door to let me know they need to dig up my garden to replace a small sub station outside. The later wont cost me anything but letting you know where my life is at right now

Im handy enough and have searched this but few points I wasnt sure on.
The manual states to shut off flow/return valves and drain using taps under the boiler but others have said not to close these as they might leak when I open them?
My Plan is.....
1). Isolate power
2). Do I need to close main water in?
3). Open taps under boiler and drain boiler.
4). Remove 4 allen screws on pump and remove.(I'll Post pics if anyone could see anything wrong with it?)
5). Screw pump back on.
6). Fill system back up with taps open? Close when water comes through?
7). Leave from of pump open until water comes through then close?
8 Fill to cira 1 bar.

I know this maybe be elementary but i've got a cold house, a wife and 2 kids and we all need showers. If I could get some help i'd appreciate it. I know this may not be amatuer hour but im over a barrel here.

You pretty much got it, I would have a new pump head ready (I think a grundfoss 15/50 fits) sounds like the old one has had it, just make sure there is voltage to the pump before you change it and you dont have to leave the taps open when your refilling.

Sorry, could you elaborate slightly on the voltage to the pump part? Is this possible via a visual test i.e. something moving in the pump or do you mean a voltmeter check? Sorry if im sounding like a dumbass; I prob' am

yea you will need a voltmeter, its just to double check its the pump thats at fault rather than no voltage getting to it, luckily none of us boiler fixers have ever fitted a part only to find the fault is elsewhere

Worse possible time for it to go on a bank holiday. Cant find any merchants up here open today to get a quote on a new head/pump

Could be time for us to 'Bear Grylls up' and get some cold showers on the go

Yeah, got one not far; I didnt think they'd stock boiler pumps. That could be a great shout. If they have it, I got £50 voucher from my work the other week that I could use in there. Its a Bosch 15-60(8-716-106-849-0) that in it just now if they dont have the exact same is there a way to easly tell from the ones they may have which ones would fit?

A grundfos 15_60 should be a direct fit.

Got the pump £92. Heads up b n q are doing 20% discount today if you spend over £100. I bought a spanner to take me over.

I have one; just dont know what to do with it

Hit my first problem when I opened the box....the exisiting pump has a pipe running from the pump into the expansion vessel but the new pump doesnt have a connector for the pipe to go into??

Does this mean I can only replace the head with the new one?
