Yep, there is a word - it's elluding me too. Suppose they have to show their shareholders a fast turnover, so cannot afford to have endless supplies of heinz beans or soups on their shelves for too long.I think that most supermarkets and whatever manufacturing we have left now operate on a last minute supply basis. It saves them from having to tie too much money up in stock. There's a name for it which escapes me at the moment.
I suppose that space in supermarkets is a premium, unlike a long-term storage warehouse.
