trying to replace the strip light in the kitchen and am confused over the wiring....

New light has three terminals, but the old one is a bit concerning....

Please helpby telling me what goes where...
3 x red
3 x black
2 x other

thanks!

I take it that one cable coming out of one side of the choc block is just a joint/extension to the connectors of the old light?
If so do away with that cable and connect remaining three twin and earths as such -
3 reds in a connector block.
Sleeve all cpc's/earths and put into earth/cpc terminal in new fitting.
The black that is currently in a connector with a red requires brown sleeving fitted on it and connected to live/line of new fitting as this is your switch live/line.
The remaining blacks are your neutrals and need put into the neutral of your new fitting.

Thanks so much, any chance you could simplify for me please - handy diy'er but not confident with electrickery!

The bare wires are earth cpc's so all need sleeving in green yellow and all joined together.

The blacks on the LHS are neutrals and all join together as they are.

You see the cable where the red terminates on the other side and the black goes to the red on the RHS?

Well that's the switch cable, so the red goes with the other reds (live) and the black of the cable is the switched live.

That black switched live goes to the red that extends to to the light via the cable on the LHS. The black of that same cable is extended the neutral on.

It's not what you say, it's how you say it.... :D

(iPad action takes a while, you hadn't posted Starspark when I started replying, coincidental even if the time of post, lags).
