Iwonder why 4x4 haters dont hate everthing bigger than the average family car do they hate people carriers that are 2wd would they hate them if they were 4wd???
I do, I hate them all equally! Anything bigger than an average family saloon I'm going to hate, because they block my vision of the road.

Safe driving is all about awareness of what's going on around you and anticipating potential hazards, anything that obstructs or conceals those hazards is going to slow me down and make my journey far more torturous and stressful that it needs to be.

I just don't see the point of those gas guzzling, fume spewing 4x4's or SUVs or whatever you want to call them on congested, crowded, cars parked both sides narrow roads in cities.

In the US with their massive multi-lane highways - fine, in the country where there's the possibility of snow fall or muddy fields to deal with - fine, in out of the way places where you need 4 wheel drive reliability - fine, but why in built up cities?

It's painful watching housewives trying to park these monstrous things in car parks - it takes them about half an hour!

In cities they're just pose-mobiles in my opinion.

Anyway each to their own I suppose.

Well mine went in muddy fields, non gritted deep snow covered roads, better MPG than my current car, and yes I live in the country. I have to agree they do seem silly in cities. That said, there are a lot of myths spread about 4x4's most of them plain wrong or misleading.

What an excellent expression, and I agree with you completely.

OK, if you really need that sort of vehicle, why not get a basic Land Rover? Answer: because it's not trendy-looking.

I feel that many such vehicles, along with the likes of BMWs and Audis are simply a willy-extension. Sad!

Take me for who I am, not what I've got.
Thats my motto.

(But its a nice clean car, )

Well it depends. The mrs recently got one of them new fangled diesel BMW 1 series hatchbacks which turns itself off at traffic lights. I have no idea of the model number, such is my interest in cars, but it bloody doesn't half get decent fuel consumption, and when I park it doesn't block the two spaces next to me like some selfish car owners do.

Small, functional, can get the hound in the back - just, <100gm/km CO2 so don't even pay road tax. There's a button next to the gear stick which puts into into sport mode and it goes like **** off a shovel, then press it again and you hardly use any diesel at all.
