hi was wondering if anyone knew how many ohms i should be getting at the fan as i phoned technical who said i should be getting around 65ohms i was currently getting around 35 so was advised to change fan but on the replacments (had two sent out know) im getting 35omhs so im jst wondering if the guy from technical has got his wires crossed and the fan is infact not the problem?thanks
:)

If you have a fairly low resistance on the fan. The windings of the fan are fine. That is not to say the bearings of the fan haven't gone and it's not turning.

Firstly, this forum does not give advice on gas/combustion matters or encourage DIYers to open the combustion chambers on boilers.

The DC resistance of most boiler type fans is round about 40 ohms. BUT the DC resistance is only one aspect of a fan motor and unless its open circuit unlikely to indicate any fault. Other problems can stop a fan turning at all or turning at full speed.

I dont think that Ariston should have been speaking to a non gas reg person at all! But if they did agree then they should at least have given you the correct resistance value.

The correct way to repair a boiler is for a gas reg engineer to diagnose the fault. Not to just replace parts without any good reason!

hi tony i am gas safe registered and spoke to technical several times and the guy was pretty sure it was the fan as i was only getting 35 ohms wen i should have been getting the 65 ohms so i replaced the fan and to my surprise i only got 35 ohms once again so the guy from technical told me to take it back to suppliers and test another one before leaving again only 35 ohms soi just thought it was strange that the two new fans had exactly the same reading as the existing one?
basicly what is happening is the boiler will stay on for around 10 mins then burner cuts out but fan continues to run and burner will no re-ignite after that no warning lights are present either?

im more of an installer than boiler repairs and am just doing this for girlfriends dad so i phoned technical straight away who then informed me to check the resistance of the fan as he thought it may be running slowly causing the fan to get to hot as it couldnt get rid of the hot gases quick enough so i checked the resistance and the guy from tech told me the fan was goosed and needed replaced do u think it may be something else that is causing this fault?

If you register and post in the combustion chamber you will get a lot more help than on an open forum

Maybe you should stick to the alarms one, or crap property to let one!

Alarms...isn't that the trade that failed electricians end up in.

As agile said you will get more complete answers on the combustion chamber forum, Your GSR qualification will be question by the powers that be before you are allowed to put the question even, and that can take a few days which your girl friend may not like.
Also I have spoken to the techs on same boiler and they don't know what they are talking about half the time so don't take their word as gospel.

Is it about asking stupid questions, or not giving people like yourself a bit of knowledge without some of the underpinning stuff.

So why in the alarms forum do people like yourself refuse to give engineers codes etc out, is tht so people with half a brain can't do things that stop you earning money!
Now we do it for safety of the public not for loss of revenue.

Pete,

A ******** is someone like Joe - who fails at most things he does, yet pretends through the assistance of Wikipedia, Google, and past advice posted on here to give crap advise.

Someone who only really comes in here for a little ego massaging, and attention.

Envy is a horrid thing. Thankfully this particular peena7se will get bored before long and go back to the GD forum with all the other weirdo's and ********s.

thanks for the advice people im jst waiting on conformation to get into the combustion chamber forum so that should help :) cheers danny

Unlike you lot that are a bunch of dopey plumbers that have no understanding of electrics whatsoever. Why you think plumbers make good boiler fixers is beyond me. :?

Name another industry with so many clueless operatives.

Erm, you'd be very surprised of who understands what and who's qualified to do what.

Let's look at electricians-clueless where heating systems are concerned.just last week had to re do an electricians work, couldn't wire a multi zone (s pan plus),
Complete mess, and why he'd removed all the earths and cut em out I'll never know.
See that every week!

Clearly your a self important prat, didn't used to work at the BBC did you?
Maybe you should stick to your own trade!
