Just seen this elsewhere

We have had to have our electricity changed, as it was getting old. We have had it done, no problems or so I thought......
I've today received a letter from Scottish Power who did the work, claiming a seal had to be replaced as it was missing and have invoiced us £60.
Does that sound right, it seems steep especially as we weren't advised during the visit?
Can anyone advise me please? Thanks.

I suspect this is the calibration seal so the meter would need checked, even for signs of interference

What is the score with ENWL, not that I'd dream of breaking a seal

Is there a difference wether it is the cutout or the meter seal missing, especially where the seal has been broken for a consumer unit replacement?

I think it's mean of the DNO to do this when they are there anyway. The seal is to safeguard their equipment as well.

Certainly if they were going to charge, they should have warned the customer.

You could argue the customer should not be liable for the charge. It may even have been removed before they owned or rented the property.

To be honest we don't have a policy as a DNO. (much as how a lot of us would like one!!)

This seems to have been the supplier making this charge for, as I said, a missing calibration seal (these prevent access to the internals of the meter, rather than the terminals)

I'm not going down the line of the repetitive discussions about electricians breaking cut-out and meter terminal seals.

Oh right, was thinking it was just the terminal seals.
I can't imagine why any honest person would tamper with the meter calibration seals so they are well within their rights, imo, to make them pay (on the grounds that it can be proved who did it.)

To be honest, irrespective of my own position on this, I think that the DNOs turn a blind eye to the subject of electricians breaking cut-out and meter terminal seals!

However the person that gets it wrong and injures themselves, others or causes a fire may well end up in a very bad place.
