Recommendation for a 63amp fuse switch

My biggest concern would be your plan to run live cores from the SWA to a switch inside the cabinet without any secondary sheathing.
1) It happens all the time inside CUs.

One question remains about earthing obviously the main earth from the consumer unit is going to be joined to the neutral at the service cut out ( PME ) does this need to be a uninterrupted wire to that point or is it permissible to have it go into a block in the meter cabinet then onto that Neutral point? The reason when I'm glanding the swa at the bottom of the cabinet I would like to bango a earth to something OK I can do it at the consumer unit but belts and braces ?
 
Gland your SWA straight into a metalclad swichfuse like this.

I asumed that, but it seems that one of the cores of the SWA is being used as the Earthing Conductor for the installation - which is what I was commenting/asking about.

The 16mm earth wire from the cut out does it have to remain uncut right through to the consumer unit? Or is it permissible to have a earth block in the meter box?

I think you can probably deduce RF's answer to that from the picture he posted - in which the 'earth wire' is not only 'broken', but changes from being a G/Y single to being a core of the SWA.

Harry - why are you not asking your electrician all these questions?

He is the one who will have to sign on the dotted line, so it would be at best rude and at worst impossible for you to present him with your fait accompli.
 
Harry just ignore the reply from this shed guy he's trouble. Anyway the way you are describing and the information you are telling us is all relevant. Yes you can put a switch fuse in the meter cabinet, the worry years ago was the size of the meter which is not such an issue if you have a modern one, I find taking the wooden panel out of a new cabinet (if you have the wood) and marking up where you want the cut out/ meter and switch fuse, I take it you are using 16mm 3 core Steel wire armour to create a sub main on a 60 or 63amp fuse? This will give you roughly 90amps to play with depending on the length of the cable of course, if you are not using storage heaters or immersion heating or an electric cooker you won't even get near in pulling that load in a domestic environment.
In regards to earthing I would have the 16mm from the neutral go through the switch fuse.

Have you got it in writing that the DNO will permit your isolator for your sub-main to be fitted in the meter box. I ask based on my experience of a new supply to my cottage. There is a sub main to an out building and it would be convenient if this could be isolated at the meter box. The DNO said only their equipment could be fitted in the meter box and that included one isolator for the entire supply. The sub mains would have to be isolated elsewhere.

The use of a sub main from the meter board in SWA applies when the consumer unit cannot be reached by normal meter tails from the meter box.
