Fault protection - Busbar Chambers

Hope you salvaged the copper busbars Lec ?

Of course!

And several meters of 240mm 4C SWA, as believe it or not, the new panel board allowed a shorter route even though it was in the same place - the SWA went down under and up - in the new one it come right in the top.

Ottermill was always an excellent make - loads of room!

Dorman Smith was used alot in my area on installs of this age as the DNO ACB incomer and CT chamber where also Dorman Smith, and the busbar could bolt directly onto the CT chamber (as in this pic). It meant the main isolator was owned by the DNO which was problematic as it was only operatable by using a 'Castell Key' which has three individual letters stamped onto it - the keys are kept in a padlockable cabinet which is part of the incomer/CT chamber.

You can just see the original position in the pics - the sw fuse under the busbar. That must have been a tight squeeze.

When the new board was installed, we pulled it out through the 'roof' (which is a plant room inside a huge industrial unit), and dropped it back in where we needed it - we where lazy and used a fork lift. TBH, it was not going to be possible without!

It is a small plant room, but more than enough space for what is there now - the 400amp, 240mm feed to a second plant room, a 95mm, 200amp feed to the freezer compressor pack, a 50mm, 125amp feed to the freezer evaporator pack, a 120mm, 200amp feed to a distant board feeding several 32amp TP outlets for refrigerated lorries, a 35mm, 125amp feed to a TP board feeding 15 air con units, and then several 80 and 63 amp circuits to sub boards for offices etc.

Here we go.

If anyone makes any comments about safe isolation........be told, the end of the cable is safe!

When picking holes in the tidyness, please consider the time window available for such installs....
