Although I understand your concerns about asbestos, it is highly unlikely that the plaster contains any. Even if it did, the crack would not necessarily be realising the fibres into the air. Asbestos is pretty safe until you start to snap or sand it.

Just get some filler and fill the crack. Red Devil OneTime will fill it in one hit without slumping, but will take a while to dry to the point of being able to sand it.

Typically, in domestic homes, asbestos would be found in fireproofing/insulation products and not all asbestos is mega evil. You can buy testing kits if ever you are worried.

Car and truck brake pads used to contain the stuff. When it wore down it was released into the atmosphere as dust and much of it ended up in lofts of houses. Every home has some, even brand new ones.

I can't see anything in the picture that would worry me but lets say there is. Its minimal exposure, you are going not going to keel over anytime soon. People that get asbestos poisoning have worked with the stuff over long periods of time, a brief exposure will do no damage. This stuff doesn't just float about the air once exposed, fibres are only released if sanded or broken and when they become airborne they stay airborne for a long time before settling.

The images shown are typically plaster over laths (thin wooden strips). TBH I was unaware that it was used (at some point) as a substitute for horse hair binding.

Additionally the size of used fibres and type (white asbestos) would be of far less concern than blue asbestos used in pipe lagging, for example.

I agree that name calling is not very productive but Your walls are brick based and there are no signs of fibres so I personally would not be worried.

Whilst not doubting your sincerity, you do yourself no favours by ignoring the advice given to you by others. Just fill the hole, job done.

I meant no disrespect, but you have had loads of replies saying "its nothing to worry about" and not a single one saying "ooh, be careful with that".
If you refuse to take the advice of the many then why continue to post? What extra confirmation are you looking for?

How many more posts will it take to convince you that you don't have a problem?

I appreciate all the responses and advice. It's not that I don't. It's just I'm moving out of here in 3 and a half weeks and would rather just get through that time and go, leaving it as it is. But u was just worried that asbestos was crumbling into my stuff below the window in the meantime. Google told me to expect all plaster to have asbestos and so I came here due your expertise and grounded views. In amazed that that somebody thinks the pink bit is wood, not because I think they are ill judges, just that it looks like something much tougher to my untrained eye. Look at google, it's scary and in only 22.
