Wallpaper Technique

Stuart,

Follow the instruction on the paper, and additionally ... use ready mix paste ... be sure to have plenty of paste on the edges ... size the walls beforehand with watered down ordinary powdered paste ... get all the air bubbles out – the idea they will disappear on their own is too precarious to consider.

Depending on the Instructions, make sure that Basic wallpaper is well soaked, I tend to cut/paste three lengths, hang first length then cut a third and paste
So all lengths have time to soak.

If you do a paste size you need to give it 24hrs but there is no need unless its bare plaster. Line first for best results

Good luck Stuart,

Having been papering today I'll just modify my earlier post ... rather than sizing the walls with watered down powder paste I actually watered down a small amount of the ready mixed and used that.

I think I had read on here it was better to use the same type of paste for sizing as would be used for hanging.

Right a five hour sessions yesterday and I am finally finished, this manual http://www.customwalldesigns.co.uk/hanging-wallpaper/, I only have one more room left so that will be my task for when I get home from work. One last quick question if I have bubbles what would be the best to go about sorting them out?[/url]

Leave them they should dry out, the bubbles are caused by the paper not being soaked long enough

Wabbitpoo it sounds like instructions for a mural, they like their PVA, i'm guessing its because flake and ready made pastes are too wet and will cause expansion and shrinkage problems. Don't think i'd wanna hang a paper by a manufacturer that wants you to fix with pva though. Reckon it would be an absolute nightmare to remove as well (despite what they say).

That is one weird set of instructions - is it for a special type of wallpaper?

Its normally how one hangs Hessian or grasscloth wallcoverings, not wallpaper.
