Hi all,

Not sure if this is the correct thread but I am planning on fitting tiles floor to celling in our bathroom and on the floor. We rent from the council and they have approved us to tile the walls and to box in the pipes. The agreement is we must be able to get to the pipes if needed behind the boxing.

I am looking for ideas on what to do. Some people suggest UPVC panels for the boxing screwed to a frame. Some suggest ply wood then tiles onto the wood and other suggest fit access panels and plasterboard it.

Here is the pipes

for your main pipe make it so the front of the box can be unscrewed, that gives access to that

for the pipes running behind the toilet, both the top and front face can be panels that are screwed onto a framework, allowing the panels to be removed if neccesarry, panels made from ply, not plasterboard though

infact you can actually buy catches, 1 part screws to framework, other part screws to back of your panels, therefore the panels are just pushed into place, if you want it to look right, use silicone the same colour as your grout and run it down the joins. when access needed, cut through silicon then just pull the panel away. job done and tidy

When using ply what about the moisture in the bathroom and being so near the bath. Will it not warp over time

I guest i am best to build the boxing etc before i start on any other part of the room

make the boxing out of wbp ply ( water & boil proof ) just seal the edges and underside with a sealer such as bal apd / sbr

Many thanks for the advice etc so far.

When it comes to installing the framework I am ok with fixing them to the walls etc but I will not be able to drill the floors or celling. Can I use anything to fix them to the floor or celling or will the walls sections hold every thing

Chris

I would just form a bulk head/boxing in.....
Using 2x2 timber for frame work..
Using a white beauty board

This way you can use it as a shelve area and easy access to remove by just unscrewing it and use cover caps for the screws..

Screwing frame work...

6mm masonary drill bit...red raw plugs and 50mm dry wall screws..you can also run a bead off silicone along the back off the 2x2 also.

White beauty board?

I know how to fix to the wheel I mean I am not allowed to drill the floor or celling as the council said so would the frame fixed to the wall hold it all up and could I fix the wood on the floor with some type of addsive to the solid floor.

Chris

Ceiling and floor just use a couple off tubes off grab adhesive...no more nails ect...for frame work...

It's 22mm thick wbp ply laminated with a waterproof laminate onto it and around edges....

And since your toilet and cistern are off old school..ie the toilet pan is about 2foot from the back wall then beauty board will be easier to fix...and will be a shelf area....lot less easier and cheaper than boxing in then tile trim and tiles...
And as you said it's council house....(no offence ment there chris)....wish I was still staying at my dads mate.....

What about some kind of UPVC board?

No offence taken
