Hi all,

What level would you run cables in a newly vaulted ceiling? The timbers are 200x50, celotex will be going upto 140 with 20mm below the rafters.

Would you run the cables above insulation, in the middle or below the rafters between the 20mm insulation and bottom of the rafters?

Im just running the cables will have a Part P Spark to connect and test.

Thanks in advance

Paul

I would run it, clipped to the joists above the celotex.
I am not sure what a "Part P" sparky might be, but whoever is signing their life away will want to see and inspect your installation methods before the celotex and plasterboard goes up.

I don't certify the ends of cables. It's the whole installation and I would want to be involved all the way along the road.

Ask your electrician. It doesn't matter what anyone on here says. If your electrician isn't happy with the way it's been done, then he's not going to sign it off, which by the way he's not actually allowed to do anyway.

It doesn't work like that.

Have you applied for Building Regulations approval?

What are the cables for? Will they need to pass through the insulation at any point? If so, have you sized them accordingly, and have you thought about how you will maintain the integrity of your vapour barrier?

Yes I have thought of that, which is why I asked the question as I can't find the answer im looking for and I was hoping that someone whos experienced in doing this and has come across this before could perhaps give me the answer on a DIY forum?

The cables are Lighting.
