A couple of times, I have seen smoke drifting away over the rooftops after IRA bombs, and it was black.
When I heard on the news that the Boston smoke was white, I thought at first it must be a different, more modern explosive.
However I have now heard that the bombs were made using black powder and ball-bearings. I imagine an explosives expert would smell the difference in seconds.
Not what I'd expect from an established terrorist group like Al Quaida or the IRA, so perhaps it was a home-grown all-American bunch. like the Unabomber or Oklahoma City.
That could explain why Obama avoided using the word "Terrorist" which I'm told American citizens interpret as meaning "foreign Arabs"

Just been reading what they used , it was pressure cookers packed with shards of metal, nails and ball bearings and stashed in black duffel bags, it does not matter what group or party was involved this is a horrible thing to do and will deserve all the punishment they get....basstarrds
Surely, white smoke would indicate the bomb was set by the pope!

I'm not sure whether Massachusetts has the death penalty but, just to be sure, perhaps they should have done the evil deed over here. They'd probably get a suspended sentence.

Massachusetts does not have the death penalty, as they are in new England and therefore more enlightened than other states. That doesn't mean I don't want the perpetrators caught and severly punished, but I just don't and never will agree with state sponsored murder.
