We have just had most of our new kitchen fitted, we were asked if we would like LED lights to go with the wall units and when we got back to the finished job this is what it looks like.

I explained that to me it looks quite tacky, ive never really been to a kitchen and seen the under-cupboard lights with wires poking out everywhere and boxes where you can actually see the wiring which you can actually pull out yourself etc

He explained that this was the only way it can be done and that with these lights there is no way of hiding the cable and that you will always have to see at least abit of the cable? is this true as i really didnt think that it would look like this?

and with this light he said that once i get the unit on the wall all you do is tuck the cable behind it and rest the box (transformers on top of the actual unit itself) i dont even know if that is the right thing to do but the distance from the actual LED light to the top of the unit is only about 1m and there is about 2 meters worth of cable?

Was this "he" the competent and qualified electrician employed/engaged by the kitchen fitters, or was it one of the kitchen fitters themselves?

That's appalling.

Don't know what's under that tape, but I'll bet it doesn't comply with the Wiring Regulations.

as above. Rough and you can put the transformers on the top

Re: your question about a 1m unit and 2m of cable, you can just loop the cable behind the unit / on top of the unit

How does he plan on plastering/rendering/tiling the wall now he's fitted the lights.

Are those original switches / sockets or has he 2nd fixed before tiling?

As said, the transformers should go on top of the wall cupboards.

Usually the mains wiring is positioned to go to the top of the wall cupboards, then the wiring from the light fittings is fished through the void between the wall and the wall cupboard.

Fortunately it looks like the kitchen is nowhere near finished, so should be easy to rectify.

But you need a decent electrician.

what is that? lol the white boxes (transformers) should be somewhere (accessible) out of sight e.g. ontop of the cupboards, with the low voltage wires going to the behind the lights. You shouldn't be able to see any wiring at all
