If this sort of thing is going to escalate, then would it not make sense to fit cameras to your car, trucks are already being fitted with same, they also record harsh braking and fast cornering, the new breed of digi cameras make this a viable solution.

My car once developed a fault with its indicator stalk switch that also flicked a high beam, i.e. when you want to flash someone, so I didn't realise until one bloke shot off in front of me from a side road, I stopped with emergency brakes and started to curse the bloke, and he cursed me back saying that I flashed him to proceed!
Did I ? of course I did not, but then a few nights later I saw my car's headlights were going hay wire, and realised that my car was flashing randomly!

I've had one of these cameras (with GPS, so you can prove where an incident happened) in my car for years. It's only been of use once, when a car pulled in front of me and caused an accident, proving my innocence. I still attach it to the windscreen every time I drive, however, just to be on the safe side.
As far as I'm aware, Mike, flashing your headlights means only 'I'm here' as far as the courts are concerned, though everybody uses it so say 'Go ahead'.

Indeed, my brother does a lot of travelling for his work, he has this so called dash cam, which he hooks up with a suction cup and presses a button and off he goes, all the view is recorded ahead, quite handy and probably very useful in the event of an accident as a proof of whose fault it may be, only thing is it has no GPS I believe, but has date and time and uses a 16GB Memory card. I will probably get one too, he bort it from Maplins!

I had something very similar. Some years ago, I borrowed a mate's wife's Austin Metro. When I was driving along, couldn't work out why a couple of cars had pulled across my path when driving this lovely piece of automotive 'merde'.
Turned out, that unknown to anyone, it had a short in the wiring. Every time you pressed the brake pedal, the headlights came on. So, driving along and dabbing the brakes made oncoming drivers waiting to turn across in front of me think I was flashing for them to go. Could have been nasty. Not until some time later, I was stopped in traffic behind a dark van could I see the headlights reflected as I had my foot on the brakes.
The dash cams are a good idea, and seem particularly popular in Russia. But then, the way the Ruskies drive, they are probably essential.
The cameras are OK, but it's another thing to stick to the windscreen along with the sat nav. Then one day, you will forget to take it with you, and it will be going walkies.
Agreed. I always remove mine when not in use. Easy to unplug and put in your pocket.
I read the recent newspaper report where a coach-load of people all sued for whiplash following a VERY minor (contrived) collision. It would appear that many, if not all the "victims" originate from a certain Islamic country in southern asia. Methinks this scam, and others like it, are filling the coffers of Islamic terrorist organisations like al-quaeda.

Nope, there is a simple and better way, abolish all insurance, so no one would be able to make a claim, and you take a risk if you smash someone's car, you put your house on a mortgage and pay for repairs.
