Guess what flew over our place today!

Im plainly spoilt living in lincolnshire

I see the red arrows almost daily doing their routines, have fast jets buzz our house, the lanc does a fly by every year over our house as we live next to an old WW2 airfield, have been to the BBMF a few times, in fact every day is like an airshow here

Yes, a spitfire with the invasion livery used to be a regular at Filton. We often used to get it flying around on a Sunday afternoon. No more though. The runway is full of holes.

I think it's not just Bristol runway at Filton that's full of holes! One of the longest runways in Britain I believe, where Airbus is situated, it was a home for RR but they've moved on, they could have had maintenance workshops here etc and it's situated on the junction of the M4/5 giving access north, south, east and west, the ideal spot for an international airport, obviously I'm missing something as Bristol International Airport is 10 miles south of the city down a small A road, I've been here since Nov81, that's 30 odd yrs in one place, I think it's time to move on again.

they flew so low over East London, during the London Olympics Opening ceremony, first time I ever witnessed such a majestic and thunderous man made roar!that almost competes with God's thunderous lightening during a thunderstorm! wow! :)

Ha! You need to get out more often, when I was based at Scampton (617Sqdn. Vulcans) a few times when we had an excersize, we would be sat at the end of the runway then when they were given the command the four Vulcans would start their engines, 16 Olympus engines going up to 100% as they each took their turn to release their brakes and storm off down the runway, we would take refuge behind the power sets, I swear! you could feel the concrete vibrating.

That was when we were a nation to be proud of. :D

went to the blackpool airshow, had the vulcan do the full set, very loud.... but not as loud as the typhoon on full reheat... very big rumble  that said, still not as loud as a harrier performing a vertical take off, that is ear shattering!!

Guess what flew over our place today. A bloody heron. It didn't come in to land, though.

We've had problems before with them trying to eat our pond fish but since they've begun to realise they can't get through the net we don't see them that often.

Herons are much quieter than Vulcans.

And one of the widest. A contractor picked me up there a few years back to go to a site meeting in Cork. He'd never been to Filton before and reckoned he could land sideways. The runway was extended for the Bristol Brabazon back in the 50s. The Village of Charlton was demolished to make way for it and all the inhabitants were built new houses near the airfield in a cul-de-sac called Charlton Close.

Petit, where in Lincolnshire is the best place to see these displays?
Thinking of a camping holiday next year and the thought of seeing these regularly sounds good.

Some years ago i went to the RIAT at Mildenhall, it was a horrible misty/murky/drizzly sort of day and no good at all for airshows but i perceivered, we were sat in my car due to the weather, anyway this B-1 raptor bomber did a very low fly by - i don't know 500ft possibly and as it came by a great big mushroom appeared behind it like in the pic below, i'll never forget it because i thought the windows were going in on the car they vibrated that much it was as though they were plastic

Simply passing through the sound barrier and the damp atmosphere made it 'visible'. Nice pic.

Thanks Gasbod. Got a rough idea of what area we need to be looking at now. :)
