Hi all. I asked about drill drivers in an earlier post and as yet I havn't made a move to buy one.
Today I was putting my workbench together. Simple 4x4 legs and 4x2 frame. Putting the frame into the legs I was piloting and sinking a hole and using 3 1/4" turbo screws with a screwdriver. My arm aches! Is a cordless impact driver or drill driver really capable of putting 3 1/4" screws through a 4x2 into a 4x4?

Put a bunch of 6x90mm screws in with my drill today. An impact driver is even faster.

Once you start using an impact driver, the other drivers (hand or cordless) start to gather dust. A good impact driver is a valuable tool to have in the bag or out of it to, there are occasion where it is best not used, but deals with just about anything.

an impact can propel a 4"screw head and all into the wood 1" if you use a 2" driver bit :D :D

wish impact drivers had been around years ago.
1 of the best bits of kit around, only use my Bosch blue combi for drilling holes, use the Bosch impact for everything else.

Cheers guys. The bench is probably the heaviest thing I will do for a while so hopefully I can now move on to lighter things requiring less umph! Gonna get me an impact driver though. Trouble is, just had my birthday and people got me B&Q vouchers!!! Useless when it comes to buying me an impact driver.

Their website lists a Ryobi one, if you're that way inclined (I am not.).

Stores do carry other things (their website is worthless), have a browse.

Have a read of the small print. As B&Q and screwfix are owned by the same company, the vouchers may be transferable.

I doubt the vouchers are transferable. But it would be good if they were!

I do a fair amount of DIY and got an Makita impact driver after struggling with some jobs using a Makita drill/driver.

Best tool I've bought as it's brilliant for a lot of jobs.

I use the drill/driver for lots of jobs still but the impact driver takes over and makes life a lot easier and quicker.
